Santa Barbara native, Dr. René Allen, M.D., F.A.C.O.G is committed to offering the highest level of personalized care and expertise in all areas of reproductive medicine. After completing medical school and residency at the University of California, Irvine, Dr. Allen performed his fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.

After fellowship training, Dr. Allen returned to his hometown to open a private practice in 2008 aptly named Santa Barbara Fertility Center. Since then, he has brought his passion for and expertise in reproductive medicine to an ever-growing and diverse Central Coast community and beyond. He is an active member of the community both through Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and Santa Barbara’s first infertility support group, which he co-created with Dr. Shelley Osborn, a local Licensed Clinical Psychologist.

Because Santa Barbara is such a highly sought-after vacation and permanent residence destination and also because some countries have some legal restrictions on certain fertility practices, patients from all over the world have been seeking the particular care and fertility services of Santa Barbara Fertility Center.

Dr. Allen has a special interest in embryo implantation and markers used to assess embryo development. He has also presented research at numerous national meetings on topics including Preimplantation Genetic Screening, male factor infertility, and tubal surgery. Dr. Allen received the Society for Male Reproduction and Urology Traveling Scholars Award in 2008 for his research on hyperglycosylated hCG in semen, and was honored by the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society for his presentation, The Predictive Value of Embryo Developmental Rate for PGD Results and Pregnancy Outcomes.

Dr. Allen’s professional affiliations include the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society, and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, for which he previously served as the Junior Fellow Chair and Vice Chair and currently serves as the Young Fellow for District IX.

Though his affiliations and awards are significant, more importantly, and the reason he is so in demand as a doctor, is ultimately because of his personable bedside manner and his ability to make each patient and their families feel comfortable, special and properly nurtured through out what is undoubtedly one of anyone’s most challenging of life’s endeavors.  Santa Barbara fertility Center has a calming atmosphere allowing patients to feel the serenity and comfort that assists their bodies, with the assistance of state of the art technology of the fertility center, to do the vital work they came here to do.
